Once More About Sarah Palin

I've been thinking a bit more about the issue with the rape screening charges and Sarah Palin (I swear I am not going to let this become a political blog - it's just that some of these issues are very important to women).
According to the Huffington Post, Palin knew that the budget had been cut and that women who were raped would be required to pay for their own testing. In fairness, this could be true, but it isn't necessarily so. I have done a number of budgets in my time that were compilations of submissions from various departments. I knew what was in the budgets because I read each line, but I cannot say I would have noticed what was taken out.
I couldn't really find the area on the Wasilla financial reports that were addressed by Huffington Post so I'm not sure if it was plain to Palin or not. Until I know for sure, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. I do not agree with her position on many of the issues, I've reason to believe she's been untruthful in some of the things she has said and deliberately misleading in some others, but I cannot imagine why any woman, no matter what her beliefs, would think something like that was ok.

Dawn, over at I'm Doing the Best I Can, has a more personal take on Sarah Palin.
It's based largely on intuition and personal experiences, but given that her mother and my mother share some common traits, I give her read on things a lot of credence.

Besides, she looks great. Isn't that all that matters? :-)
Seriously, I'm not sure why McCain picked her. But I think she's going to help him at the polls. She's charismatic, relatively young, but not too young, and she represents the future of the party. She balances the ticket (at least she's a woman instead of another old white guy), and she's popular with the party base. Or at least not unpopular. Furthermore, she is garnering attention and a lot of press, which is more than Joe Biden can say.
This election was the Democrat's to lose. John McCain has had to sell his soul for the party nomination, which saddens me, but he's a good man, respected on both sides of the aisle. And now Obama is behind in the polls.
It's going to be an interesting election.
The process of putting a President into office is probably the most complex and deceit laden activity human beings engage in. It is all about salesmanship. “This car will make you happy if you buy it, don’t buy that other one, it will make you sad.” Truth does not really enter into the goal of the sales pitch, at least not in the minds of the auto manufacturers, ........ or the wonderful folks who brought us 8 years of Bush.
Palin is a flashy car which is all style, no safety, and no performance. Certainly no decent gas mileage or environmental friendliness. She is another humungous SUV with 25 cup holders when that is the last damn thing we really need. But hey, all you patriots, big SUVs like Sarah are fun! Just look at that sparkly grill. It is unfortunate, but most people purchase vehicles based upon cosmetics rather than performance, and that sad fact is the result of good salesmanship.
I have known several women who have been the victims of sexual assault, and I can state with absolute certainty that the trauma lasts a lifetime. It does not disappear. Really, the best one can hope for is to learn to live with it and move on, find success on new horizons, and be strong enough to enjoy life despite the horror of the past. Billing victims of sexual assault may have been intended to save money, but to sacrifice an opportunity to promote healing for the sake of a few pennies demonstrates either sick callousness or twisted evil. For Sarah Palin’s sake I hope it is the former. May she never have to find out the hard way what despair that policy has most likely wrought.
Palin scares the living daylights outta me. What scares me the most is that the Republicans are presenting her as the next leader of the US. What happened to McCain? Do they know something we don’t? If this gas guzzling grizzly bear of a woman with the little smile of a jackal is elected, those people who thought nothing could be worse than Bush may be in for a truly nightmarish surprise. I pray for the increased insight and intelligence of the average American voter. See the sales pitch for what it is and shop wisely, because once you drive it off the lot you’re stuck with it for 4 long years before you can trade in.
