About Commenting on My Blog

I've been doing some thinking about my anonymous friends who have been leaving such respectfully written comments and I've decided that I will no long publish anonymous comments. My blog, my choice. So, come out from under the bridge trolls and face me. If you want to leave a comment on my blog, get a blogger account or at least sign a name or pseudonym to your comment so I will have a name to associate with your remarks. (Those of you who use the anonymous comment option and sign your comments may continue to do so at least for now.)

Let me ask this - if you're an anonymous poster but you sign your name to your entries - is it a really big deal to just get a blogger ID? I know you may not want to blog but you can sign up in less than a minute and just never use the blog. You have to provide an email address when you sign up but anonymous email addresses are easy enough to get from yahoo or gmail. If you're a commenter here and you don't have a blogger account, let me know if there are reasons you feel you can't get a blogger ID. I may just go to blogger ID holders only posting here. I hate to do that if it restricts comments from non-trolls so I want to hear what you think.

Oh, i like it when You assert Your powers!

=)

Works for me... and it even seems to only require a Google email account as i have never signed up for a blogger account.

Actually one of my friends signed up today and all it requires is any email account. You sign in under "New blogger" and where it says enter your google account you just enter the email address you used to sign up.

I must admit I was a little scared by that pic when I first saw it in relation to this site! Not that you need me to tell you this, but bottom line is that you need to do what you feel comfortable doing and if that means limited or limiting people, that is your prerogative. Those of us that have been around know your views and how much you give back. This is a teeny tiny thing to ask.

I'm new to blogging. I have my own blog but I don't know who has access to my private details. Somehow I feel Google is monitoring everything I post. I'm also unsure whether the email address I provided when I signed up can be released or passed on. I'm sure I'm just being paranoid, but it's an unsettling feeling all the same.

i think it is certainly not too much to ask. Especially given the fact that there are people on the net who are only out to have their fun at the expense of others. They don't just hurt the owner of a web page or blog, but also the people who enjoy them. A few bad apples may not ruin the whole bunch, but they certainly do make you pick your way through.

i will be getting my blogger id today.

Given the millions and millions of people posting on the web I don't think people need fear their privacy. It would take a good sized army of government employees to begin to track down people who leave comments on blogs even if they could get funding and authorization.

Really, nobody cares who you are.

Personally I don't try to hide who I am and anybody who ever wants to can find my physical address in about fifteen minutes of effort - at most - if they know anything about how the web works. But again, I make it easy because I don't think I have anything to fear.

But if you are really worried then search for information on deleting browser cookies and posting via anonymous proxies.

What difference does it make if people sign their comments or not? We could sign any name or psuedonym and it would not matter. You still do not know for certain who anyone is. I could be someone from your past living in the same town as you and you would never know the difference.
