- Choose a time and place where you can be free of disturbance. Do not attempt to listen when you are driving or doing anything else where your immediate attention may be required.
- Prepare the room by decreasing distractions. Dim the lights if you wish, turn off the tv, shut off the ringer on the phone.
- If you wish to drown out external noises, try playing soft, soothing music.
- Listen with headphones if you have them.
- Find a comfortable position (either sitting or lying).
- Loosen any tight or restrictive clothing.
- Close your eyes for a couple of minutes and breathe slowly and deeply.
- Listen, and simply follow the directions as your hypnotist guides you.
- Don't worry. Just let go. Try not to analyze (Am I really going under? Is this how it feels? I don't feel hypnotized...). Remember, hypnosis is simply a state in which you are focused and suggestible.
- Be realistic in your expectations. This won't feel like a coma and you can choose whether or not to follow the hypnotist's instructions. The best description I've heard someone offer was, "I knew there were things going on around me, I just didn't care. I could have chosen not to do what the hypnotist said, but I didn't want to. Her suggestions all sounded like a great idea to me!"
Sounds simple, doesn't it? (Smiles) It is.
If for some reason, you feel
you weren't successful, don't give up, especially with a recorded
session. Listen a few times and allow yourself to become comfortable
with the hypnotist's voice and demeanor. For most people
repeating the suggestions increases their response to the suggestions.
